3rd and 4th of July

Tom has a love/hate relationship with fireworks.  He loves
to see them go off, but the noise isn't too good for his PTSD.
We usually stay home on the 4th, so we did our picnic on the 3rd!

Putting together a picnic means pie---blackberry pie
was the choice made by all!

First the pie shell

Second, the filling

We liked this pie so much we made another one the next day!

Watermelon as far as the eye can see at
the commissary!

Emi looks good in my sun hat!

Went to Rocky Beach as usual; saw this hardy sand flower.

Always like visiting Rocky Beach!

Temple Open House

Fortunate to be able to serve at the temple open house
doing three different jobs. In the welcome tent I was tasked
with organizing the people who did not want to negotiate the
stairs, putting them in groups that could fit onto the elevator
and making sure they got situated with temple wheel chairs.

Another job was to count the visitors as they left the temple,
recording the totals every half an hour---lots of clicking!

Third job was to slip on the shoe coverings for people
doing groups tours thru the temple.  Here are some of the
bags of booties our Youth put into pairs.  Had to stuff Tom's car
to the brim hauling those bags to the temple!

Kimo wasn't feeling too well the day we assisted with
booties, also known as "booty duty", but he came to
help out anyway.

The blue sky is so vibrant against the white of the
beautiful temple!

Light flare from my camera makes the temple look
like it's shooting a laser!

Strange Planet Mother's Day

We were fooling around with Chatgpt and at my request, Kimo wrote a prompt; to make a Strange Planet-style cartoon for Mother's Day.  He gave it two prompts that reflect my mothering style.

One is that I openly admit to having been overprotective about the kids swimming in the ocean.  Until they were strong pool swimmers, I never let them go out deep in the ocean waves and was constantly having to rein them in.  This did scar the kids a little bit, but they are alive to tell that tale.

And then, I have made a conscious effort to tell our family stories over and over again, both the kids' stories and stories from Tom and I and our childhood.  I do this because my parents didn't and I know very few stories from their youth!

(All credit to Nathan Pyle and Chatgpt)

Reminds me the first joke Kimo ever told when he was less than two years old.  A hard plastic cup was on the floor and Kimo was having fun putting his foot inside it.  Tom and I laughed at him doing that and I said, "Kimo, why are you putting your foot in that cup?"  All Kimo said was, "Shoe!"

He got me this cool machine that cuts cardboard, etc.-

Looking for a project now!

Edges are so neat and tidy-I love it!

Moved Some Old Blog Posts

Misc.

Secretly washed Tom's car for him as a treat and then

spelled out a love note for him using the hose!

Brother Webb sporting a bedazzled tie for Father's day

Got Tom a recharchable back scrubber for the shower-he liked it!

Another cool twilight SpaceX launch!

Nice to meet up with Maren for lunch; she's so uplifting!

Curtis passed the reins to the new Coordinators of the FS Center.
We made him a pop-up book to show our appreciation for him!
We had a rather low-key 4th of July this year, staying home.
The fireworks can be triggering to Tom's PTSD sometimes,
so instead, we closed all the windows and put on white noise!

Church & Misc.

       Mostly church events

Went to Levi's baptism-I always go for the toes photo!
(Bishop's toes on the left).

Visited Elder AJ and his family before he left for the
Provo MTC, then on to the Philippines!

Also went this little guy's baptism

Made an impulsive purchase,

but, kinda had to since our game for the Ward Trunk or Treat
centered around zombie hands picking up trash!
When you pull on the string, the zombie fingers clench.

Zombie trash

Great photo opp

Kimo projected Mario Brothers on the wall and let the kids
have fun playing level 1.

This is a screenshot from a 1998 video-
Kimo was the cutest baby! Look at those eyes!

Kimo made me some duck tire valve covers!

Funny

Also funny

Kimo made this rock guy and I thought he looked like
mustache man from the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square.

Sure enough!  Add a tie and some hair and he's almost a twin

My calling makes me close friends with the vacuum!

Aptly applies to our house...

Lastly, here is Kimo going in for his second interview.
Happy and grateful to say that he got the job!
